You expected it not to be? [He's just going to step inside and close the door after himself.]

Well, with the move and the dreams and me disappearing for a week, I didn't think they'd keep the stuff.

[Duo's voice comes from a room off the living room.]

There's a lot of my tools! And my extension cords! Yes!

[The sounds of shuffling can be heard from the room.]

I can actually use this for Amaru's present, and these here and--that's odd...

'They' Do you have roommates? [Now he's curious.]

And what's odd? [coming to investigate now]

[When Gaignun steps into the room, he would find that the room Duo is in is quite literally covered in all sorts of gadgets and gizmos and tools and other such things. Well, half the room is covered. The other half is unusually neat and tidy, save for the small layer of dust covering everything. On that side is a stack of folded blankets, and a pillow set on top. It is here where Duo is found kneeling, a frown on his face.]

Huh? Oh...sorry. Yes, I live with Jade and her friends. This was where we all lived before we moved to a new place...

[Duo reaches out to place his hand on the pillow.]

What are these doing here...?

They know where you are now though, right? [Knowing Duo's track record of telling people things...]

Aren't they yours?

I talked to Jade. She knows I'm back and where I've been staying. As for these blankets...they're not mine.

[He stands and looks around the room, totally confused.]

The whole thing, too. Why would only half of the room be cluttered if I was the only one who stayed in this room?

[Duo turns to Gaignun.]

None of my stuff was out of place that I can remember. My extension cords and tools were all right where I left them last. Even the scrap bits. So why...?

[He trails off and motions towards the folded stack of blankets.]

Maybe they have someone else in this room now, and that they'd share with you when you came back. Maybe Jade would know.

...Maybe.

[With a final glance towards the pile, he moves to his duffel bag and hefts the rather full thing with ease onto his shoulder. He grabs a few other spare parts from a shelf and begins heading back towards the front door as he shoves them into the duffel bag.]

This will be okay for now. I can work on Amaru's birthday present now, even if I am about a month late...

[He'll wait for Gaignun to exit with him before he locks the door. He shuts it behind him before heading back towards Leon's house.]

Thanks for taking me out, Gaignun. I owe you one.

You're welcome Duo, I'm glad I could help you out. I know how frustrating they can be sometimes.

They're not so bad, most of the time. I think...it was just poor timing on everyone's part, you know? And it just makes me feel like they think I'm something that needs protecting.

[Le sigh. Angsty teenagers are angsty.]

I know that's not how it is, but...I don't know how else to put it.

[Gaignun considered Duo's words carefully.]

Well, it's true that they thing that you're someone worth protecting, and they are both the sort to throw themselves over a grenade if it would help someone they loved. However, it doesn't help when they get mad at someone for doing the same thing for them.

A double standard, then?

[He gives a low grumble as he turns down the alley.]

Just because I don't have powers or anything doesn't mean I don't know how to take care of myself. Yeah, I've gone and done some stupid things before, but I always made it. How is this any different?

It's not any different, but they're always going to react like that because you aren't them. You and Rubedo did something similar to Jenny when she came back from tangling with Rip.

[A sigh escapes him, and he all but deflates, his frustration leaving him.]

I remember.

It's not because you're an unaugmented human. Rubedo and Jenny will act like this towards you, you and Rubedo will act like this towards Jenny, and you and Jenny will act like this towards Rubedo.

What they don't realize is that you're all very similar in that respect, and similar in the fact that you get horrible cabin fever if locked in a room.

That first week I was back wasn't so bad. I could come and go as I pleased, but I figured they wanted me close, so I stayed. But when I'm forced to stay in one place like now...

[He shudders, though he tries to hide it by shifting his bag onto the other shoulder.]

Reminds me too much of the several prison cells I got thrown in.

Anything can be a prison cell. [This was simply said, but full of understanding]

[Duo is going to glance up at Gaignun and smile slightly before cutting a corner onto an open street.]

The different foster homes were like that. The church, too, at first. Hell, even the Sweeper group before I finally figured out what I was going to be doing with Deathscythe.

Thankfully, I believe good behavior will earn you an early release.

I'll just have to keep myself busy until then!

[He shuffles his bag some with a grin.]

Besides, I need to get out soon. I have a special project I need to finish up, and I can't do it at the house.

Oh? What is it?

A surprise. For everyone.

[Yup, that's all you're getting out of him.]

[He's just going to chuckle at that] I see. Well, I'm sure by the time you wish to work on it things will have cooled down some.

I actually had planned to do this for Christmas, but then we all got put in Candyland, then the dreams and...it just fell by the wayside.

[His steps seem to quicken as the house comes into view.]

Lucky me, I have a co-conspirator, else I wouldn't be able to pull this off!

Many things got waylaid in those few weeks. I hope they take it easy on us for a while to make up for it.
